ContentsNew digital technology has disruptive effects on business models and strategies, transforms the operations of organizations, connects people and organizations and creates new work patterns. This is especially challenging in incumbent firms such as family firms and SMEs. Those firms face the challenges of the dual transformation of digitally transforming existing business models as well as to develop completely new, digitally enabled, business models. In doing so, long-lasting traditions, family-ownership, embeddedness into value chains and social networks can be an asset or a liability for such firms. In this research study seminar, students will realize a comprehensive empirical research study on the key resources, drivers, and success factors of successful business model transformation in family firms and SMEs.
