Learning Objectives / Competencies:
The students should be enabled to assess the legal framework, consequences and design options for each sustainable business model in a correct manner. The aim here is to impart fundamental competencies instead of detailed knowledge.
After completing the module, students will be:
- Professional competence: … able to deal with the given framework conditions for digitalized sustainable business models; they can identify relevant regulations and apply them to typical issues. Students will be able to develop economically viable solutions within what is legally feasible.
- Methodological competence: … experienced in applying the relevant law to ecologically sustainable, digital projects. They can turn business ideas into legally tenable ventures.
- Social competence: ... trained, if desired, in working in small, multi-disciplinary teams or also in acquiring knowledge through specialist discussions with experts from legal practice. Students must independently pinpoint and apply the legal framework in the context of digital innovations and sustainability models in standard constellations. They work on legal questions on the basis of the thematic introduction and exercises. From this, they develop legally tenable solutions.
- Self-competence: … experienced in completing their tasks in a professional and timely manner. They will be able to apply advanced skills of self-organization within a team or independently to various situations in the professional environment.
Integrated and in connection with modules 10 and 11, students can examine their own or a given innovative business model in the area of sustainability and digitalization for its legal feasibility. They have the choice of whether they base this on a fictitious or a real model and whether they work alone or in a project team.

- Contemporary legal methodology
- Introduction to the relevant legal framework for sustainable digitization
- Selected legal issues in the digitized business environment, especially contract law and licensing models, liability law, consumer protection
- Data protection law
- Protection of know-how: industrial property rights, copyright law and protection of trade and business secrets as legal incentive models for sustainable business activities
- Data protection as a means of environmental sustainability
- Identification of legal hurdles in digitalization and development of solution strategies
- Fundamentals of European environmental, climate and energy law
- German and European regulatory law: supervisory aspects for ecological business forms
- Application of solution strategies to digitalized business models
- Relevant compliance requirements for sustainable business

- Self-directed learning in the Learning Lab "LUC"
- Coaching of students in the preparation of their module work
- Guest lectures by foreign and German lecturers from academia and practice
